Chapter 28

Dagger

The ride back to the clubhouse was quiet. His Firecracker stared out the window at all the bikes. She seemed both amazed by the sight of them and horrified at the thought of what was to come. He knew she was expecting the worst, and it bothered him. His club would never hurt her for a couple pranks. Preacher had also winked at her, which was a good sign that he wasn’t angry at her. Dagger knew he had been, but once he found out who she was, it had deflated.

He still couldn’t believe that she was Amber’s sister. It was someone the club hadn’t even thought about, and they all had known about her. They had been looking for sisters of the people that had wronged them, and they had killed. Amber hadn’t even been on their radar.

As they pulled up, Dagger parked, and gave his girl a minute to compose herself. He reached over and brushed a stray lock of red hair off her face. She didn’t even turn to him, just stared at the clubhouse doors. He sighed, and exited the vehicle, heading for her side. When the door was open, he crouched down in front of her and grabbed her hands.

“I’ll be right beside you Firecracker,” Dagger promised. “No one in there will hurt you or upset you, I’ll make sure of it,” he promised. She nodded at him and raised her arms to him. He took that as a sign she was ready and lifted her carefully out.

When he reached the door, Navaho was there to hold it open. He had given everyone time to enter first, so the clubhouse was full. Steele greeted him and led him over to the couch. Grateful, Dagger nodded at the VP, and sat holding Zoe on his lap. When he looked around, he noticed the entire club was present, along with the detectives, Mario and Trent. Preacher stood from his spot at the bar and addressed the room.

“This isn’t a hearing or a lynching,” Preacher explained, as he looked right at Zoe. “We just want to know why you attacked us, and what was going through your head.”

Zoe looked up at him, and Dagger nodded at his girl. She needed to tell her side, and they were all giving her the chance. Not one of his brothers appeared angry at all. They were all relaxed as they waited for her to speak.

“I grew up with Amber pretty much taking care of me,” Zoe started. “Our parents died when Amber was eighteen and I was fourteen. She fought hard to get legal custody of me, so I wouldn’t have to go into foster care. She quit school, got a job, and moved us into a small apartment. It was hard for her. Amber had to pay for the funeral expenses, sell and clean out our house, and work long hours, but she never once complained. She gave me all the love she had, and we were happy,” Zoe explained.
